I hope this term’s newsletter finds you safe and well.

What a year it has been.  I am truly proud of our staff and students, supported by parents and carers who have collectively made this year so successful across the trust.  It has been fantastic to see our academies return to offering trips and visits and a wealth of experiences for our children, far too many to mention here, providing them with opportunities to grow beyond the classroom, and to engage in activities that will make memories that they will have forever.

As part of my role I have the privilege to visit other schools and academies, both locally and further afield.  After any visit, it is always a pleasure to come back to base and spend time soaking up the amazing teaching and learning taking place in our academies and speaking to students - I have to agree with Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz that “there’s no place like home”

In your home, over this holiday period, I hope that you are surrounded by friends and family and that you can enjoy time together.

I look forward to working with you and your children in 2023.

Sean Woolley

Principal

Epworth Primary Academy

As we race into Christmas I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support this year.  As always it is great to be out on the gate each day and see smiling faces in the morning and evening, with children sharing what they have done during the day.

It has been a term where things really do seem to have begun to return to a greater sense of normality.  The children have had a wide range of experiences this term which they have thoroughly enjoyed including a number of trips both locally and further afield including; Blackpool, The National Holocaust Memorial centre and local geography studies in Epworth.  This last week has seen great performances from our children with the carol service and Christmas productions.

The term began with arts week and an author visit for the children to enjoy.  We witnessed the loss of HRH Queen Elizabeth II and celebrated her life.  As the term progressed we have had visits from the police and fire service, children tasted foods from different countries and watched the Men’s, Women’s and wheelchair rugby league world cup.  We came together as a community to remember those who have lost their lives fighting for freedom.  This seemed even more poignant this year with what is currently happening in Ukraine.

All of these activities and visits will go towards supporting our Epworth Offer, which was launched earlier this term.

All children in Years 5 and 6, with the help of Mrs Shepherd, have begun to learn how to play the ukulele.  This adds to the growing number of instruments that are now being learnt across the academy by a wide range of children.  The academy celebrated being on this site for 40 years with an event to share our history through photographs and documents.

I would also like to thank the PTFA for their efforts this term with a range of activities arranged for the children including the Christmas Fayre and Halloween Disco, as well as organising the uniform swap and Pantomime tickets for parents.  This fundraising goes a long way to supporting activities and resources in the academy.

Finally, a huge thank-you to Epworth staff who continue to work tirelessly to support your children and give them the best education they can.

40 Year Celebration

This year Epworth Primary Academy celebrated its 40th birthday.  We visited the archives and managed to find photographs from years gone by.   We enjoyed an open afternoon on the last day of term to enable parents/families to look back in time.  There were a few parents, of parents in the photographs.

2022 Rugby League World Cup

A number of the children attended the 2022 Rugby World Cup games earlier this term in Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield.  What an experience for them all - they thoroughly enjoyed it.

The whole school took part in a sponsored Elf Run, raising funds for the very worthy cause Lindsey Lodge Hospice.  The event was a huge success with funds raised to the amazing total of £1,300. The children had great fun (even in the freezing cold weather).  Huge thank you to all who supported.

Reception Class

Chestnut and Cherry classes have been looking at the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo  who created portraits using vegetables, fruit and flowers. We used different fruit and vegetables to create our own portraits, naming different facial features and talking about expressions and how they can show feelings.

Nut Allergy (Please read this very important information)

We have a number of children in school who have a very severe nut allergy (Peanuts/hazelnuts/almond).  As the allergy is from ingestion and touch we  have enforced a total ban of all nuts in school.

Your child is not at any risk whatsoever from this situation.  However, the health and wellbeing of our pupil who is at risk, does depend on your co-operation nuts i.e. Chocolate spread, cakes, biscuits etc.

Thank you for your co-operation in this very serious matter.
